At four years on the old veranda
Across from the frost I’d eventually blunder
Her leash cut across to the lower garden
To the koi pond, thorned roses and the fountain
There she mangled round and howled
The girls would fawn over her and carry her ‘round
Inside a bubble, she was passed to me
My stubborn hands couldn’t hold her quite so gently

 She used to cry out of indecision
I would get angry at my lack of reaction
She would moan and wail imitating a song
On her parent’s staircase, sulking, alonе
Heaving on the steps, shе becomes a vacuum
As I look, I’m stranded in this room
Tears would wet her cheeks, her forehead fractures
I’m a glassy zombie, staring captured

 Too tempted by the murmurings
She’s on the table and the guilt it brings

The pull used to hit like a punch to the arm
Now I feel oblivious to her charm
A dull, dead feeling in my abdomen
I scratch out sentences and try begin
